Bride Before the Ceremony

Socializing at Rehearsal Dinner

Rehearsal Dinner

Rehearsal dinner was held on the new lawn at the Helmer's. A great spread of food was prepared by Scott's siblings and family friends. Sister-in-law Pam made her veggie burgers and a family friend made vegan oat burgers. Scott's sisters made pasta, potato, and spinach salad. Brother Casey chopped and diced where needed.
Sister-in-law Peggy arranged food on trays and on the serving tables. Nephews and nieces carried food to the serving tables. Scott asked the blessing on the food and went with Claris first in line, "to show everyone how it is done"! ; D

Opening Gifts, Just the Beginning of Things To Come

A couple of gifts had been delivered by aunt Fran, from some of Scott's aunts. Aunt Ethel's quilts are all hand stitched. Claris loved the color, one of her favorites!

When There is Smoke

We had just finished up taking some group photos, when we  both heard, and saw something in the sky; and boy was it smoking. The helicopter would fly around for a while then return to earth for refueling. Apparently someone in the neighborhood had a bad engine on their remote control craft, but it did afford us a little entertainment! ; D

Mother's Birthday

Claris and Scott were among 30 family members that joined in celebrating Mother's birthday. All of Mother's children, their spouses, some grandchildren, and some great grand children were in attendance. But the real surprise for Mother, was when her brother, and her youngest sister, along with their spouses arrived.

Claris got to meet some more family members, and get better acquainted with others during this trip. We all enjoyed her great sense of humor and loving spirit!

On the Water

Boating in Southern Oregon

Scott had  been spending the past few years attending National Singles Camp, at MiVoden on Hyden Lake. Scott missed this years camp with good cause; Claris and Scott's wedding being less the a month away.

Claris and Scott did make a trip north to Southern Oregon on the Labor Day weekend for a family gathering to Celebrate his mother's silver birthday. They even found some time to do a little boating

Trying Filipino Food

Claris served us some Filipino dishes to try, Lumpia and  Pansit both dishes I enjoyed. Apparently these are some of Scott's favorites.

Monday was a busy day as we toured the PUC Church 's Fireside room (the church has a link to a parking map at this site), and the Elmshaven Church (the church has links to maps on the site). Here is the site or maps to PUC Church,

Shopping Trip

Sunday morning a yummy brunch was hosted by Lance and Pam, Scott's brother and sister-in-law, during which wedding plans were discussed. Following brunch the ladies took Claris shopping for a wedding dress in Santa Rosa.

Though the shop had many dresses, they didn't have one in Clairs size to try on, which was rather disappointing. The shop didn't offer anything that Claris liked, but a catalouge had the perfect dress. The shop said they could have it in by Aug. 20, and suprisingly the dress arrived last week.

House Calls

Plans to to take engagement photos was curbed when Scott had a piece of dry cement blow into his eye on Friday. By the next day his eyelid was swollen up like "pink eye".  An ophthalmologist was found who actually makes house calls. This is possible with new technology that makes portable equipment.

The doctor was able to remove the material from the eye, which offered a good deal of relief for Scott.

"I'll Show You How It's Done"

When Scott brought a lovely young woman for Mother's Day weekend, we figured something was a foot. We wouldn't hear any news of wedding bells, until the following month, when Scott informed mother he was engaged.
